You might be the first to notice the skin on your neck isn’t as firm, smooth, and tight as it used to be. Vertical banding and excess fat are common concerns people have about their necks as well.
Dr. Kailash Narasimhan is a double board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facial rejuvenation surgery. He performs neck lift surgery, often combined with a facelift, in St. Petersburg, FL, to help women and men rejuvenate their necklines and look more youthful.

The best candidates for a neck lift want to correct the following concerns:
The neck lift is a plastic surgery procedure that focuses on the area below your chin.
Dr. Narasimhan typically combines it with a traditional facelift to address aging of the lower 2/3 of the face from below the lower eyelids to the jawline. He often performs liposuction as part of a neck lift to remove excess fat from under the chin and along the neck.

This is a common question in our practice. The answer is “yes”, an isolated neck lift can be effective for patients who only desire improvement in the lower face and neck.
However, Dr. Narasimhan will remind you that an isolated neck lift will not address the cheek and portions of the jowl or jawline. However, an excellent neck lift can take years off your appearance, strengthen the jawline, and smoothen loose skin. It has a high patient satisfaction rate. It is effective for men and women who desire a procedure targeted to the neck without much work on the face itself.
If you have good skin elasticity on your neck and are only looking to reduce excess fat or a “double chin,” you may benefit from nonsurgical CoolSculpting®, which freezes away targeted fat cells.

Physician fees for a neck lift range from $3,500 to $6,400. You will receive a specific price for your procedure as part of your personal consultation in our office.
Neck lift surgery involves a single small incision under the chin; it may include incisions behind the ears. These incisions are needed to pull the skin from the sides (laterally), as well as in the midline of the neck.
After a neck lift, patients typically are ready to return to non-strenuous activities and work after a week once the sutures are removed. Most patients may resume heavy physical activities within 4 to 6 weeks. Recovery will take a bit longer if you have a facelift performed with your neck lift.
Initially, you will need to keep your head elevated as much as possible (including while sleeping) and wear a compressive strap or light dressing to minimize swelling and bruising. Avoid lifting anything heavier than 10 to 15 pounds for 4 to 6 weeks. While mild bruising may take up to 6 weeks to fade, camouflage makeup can make it less noticeable.

Expect your neck lift results to last about 10 years depending on your skin quality and other individual factors. While surgery cannot stop the aging process, regular use of sunscreen, avoiding weight gain, and not smoking can all help extend the life of your results. Medical spa treatments like IPL photofacials and laser skin resurfacing along with consistent use of medical-grade skincare products can keep your skin looking its best.
