In our plastic surgery center, Dr. Kailash Narasimhan sees many breast augmentation patients from other nearby cities who are unhappy with the results of their results from another practice.
Breast revision surgery involves replacing existing breast implants to change implant size or type, or to correct certain complications. If you’re considering a breast augmentation revision in Tampa, it’s critical to find an experienced and qualified doctor to perform your surgery. Dr. Narasimhan is a double board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in revision breast surgery, which is often more challenging than primary surgery.

You may be a good candidate for breast revision if:
It can be difficult to determine when the time is right to undergo breast augmentation revision. Typically, the surgery is indicated for the following specific concerns:
“Deflated,” ruptured, or leaking implants are common reasons to undergo breast augmentation revision. This change may be easily visible or discovered during an X-ray or MRI. When a saline implant ruptures, the saltwater filling is harmless and will be absorbed by the body. A silicone implant rupture can be more difficult to distinguish. However, if you feel soreness in your breast, see a change in breast size, or notice any new lumps, we recommend that you consult your physician.
Some patients may wish to adjust the size of their implants after an initial breast augmentation. Dr. Narasimhan can typically use your original incision for implant removal and replacement. If you want larger breasts, he can expand the pocket to accommodate the new implant. If you want smaller implants, Dr. Narasimhan can decrease the size of the pocket so the smaller implants fit properly.
This complication develops when internal scar tissue causes a constricting capsule to form around the implant. The implant can become misshapen and hard. Dr. Narasimhan is usually able to use the original incision site to remove the hardened capsule and implant, then insert a replacement implant.
It’s not uncommon for certain implants to cause visible rippling through the breast tissue. Dr. Narasimhan can replace the current implant with one that is less prone to rippling. He can also move the implant below the muscle to provide more breast tissue coverage.
Sometimes, implants can be placed too far apart, causing a lack of cleavage or “side boobs.” Other times, implants are placed too close together. Dr. Narasimhan can correct this by manipulating and reconstructing the pockets where the implants are placed.
If you are unhappy with your implants and decide that you want them removed without replacing them, Dr. Narasimhan can extract the implant and capsule. Sometimes patients can have a simple removal. However, more often than not, we combine a breast lift with the removal procedure to further enhance results.

It is important to have an open and honest conversation with your surgeon in order to achieve your desired results. Dr. Narasimhan will consider your ideal outcome, your safety, and his expert opinion when recommending an implant.
We offer both saline and silicone implants. Implants come in a variety of sizes, and there are several different options for incision sites. Dr. Narasimhan can further explain the pros and cons of each implant type during consultation. You may also visit our Breast Implants page for more information.
Recuperation after breast augmentation revision is similar to that of primary surgery. Dr. Narasimhan advises his patients to start walking the day of surgery, but to avoid all vigorous activities for about 4 to 6 weeks. Overexerting yourself can have an adverse effect on healing. Everyone heals differently, so listening to your body is key.
Most patients can return to work a few days after surgery. If your job is physically demanding, you may have to take more time off.
Most swelling will resolve within 1 month, but it make take several weeks for your new implants to settle into their final position.
It is important to schedule your postoperative visits and follow all recovery care instructions. If you have any concerns during your recovery period, do not hesitate to call the office. We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
