How To Choose the Right Breast Implant Size

Dr. Narasimhan believes that patient education is one of the most important ways to ensure a successful surgical outcome. If you’re considering breast augmentation, you’ve probably given a lot of thought to your desired size. Dr. Narasimhan urges you to keep these points in mind as you continue your research:

Cup size isn’t everything.

If you’ve ever shopped around for bras, you likely already know that cup sizes can vary quite a bit between manufacturers. This inconsistency is what makes cup size an unreliable way to plan for breast augmentation. Rather than using cup sizes, breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc). While it’s good to have an idea of your desired look prior to surgery, Dr. Narasimhan introduces you to your size options during your consultation. During this appointment, you may also use breast implant sizers, which allow you to “try on” your new look before undergoing surgery.

Each woman is different.

If you know a friend or family member who’s had a great breast augmentation, it can be tempting to want to model your results after hers. But each woman is unique, and what works for your friend may not be the best choice for you. Factors such as your height, body type, chest width, and existing breast tissue can all affect how your implants look once they’re placed. Dr. Narasimhan’s years of experience performing breast augmentation surgeries have enabled him to better predict results for each woman. He uses this knowledge to guide you through the implant selection process for a beautiful result that’s unique to you.

I have been very pleased with my breast procedure. They look so much younger and fuller. The experience from start to finish has been great, thank you Dr. Narasimhan

Should I Choose Saline or Silicone Gel Breast Implants?

Women who choose Narasimhan Plastic Surgery have many options when it comes to breast implants. Of course, Dr. Narasimhan will discuss implant size with you and help you make a decision that you can be happy with for many years to come. And he’ll also share with you all the benefits and drawbacks of saline implants and the latest generation of silicone gel implants.

While saline has been around for over 3 decades as an implant option, the latest silicone gel implants represent a true innovation. These breast implants contain a cohesive silicone gel that can give your breasts a very natural look and feel. In fact, most women choose silicone gel over saline for this reason. No matter which implant type you choose for your breast augmentation, Dr. Narasimhan has the surgical expertise to achieve a naturally enhanced result.

What’s a Breast Augmentation Revision?

Dr. Narasimhan performs revision surgery to exchange implants or correct unsatisfactory results from previous breast surgery. These procedures may accomplish one or more of the following goals:

  • Improving implant position when the breasts are too low, high, close together, or far apart.
  • Correcting a complication such as capsular contracture.
  • Removing implants completely (explant surgery).
  • Changing breast implant size, type, or fill material.

Breast Augmentation FAQ

Which incision is best for breast augmentation?

The “best” incision for each breast augmentation patient depends on a number of factors, including type and size of implants, breast anatomy, and personal preference. Dr. Narasimhan typically uses the breast crease (inframammary) incision or an incision around the areola (periareolar).

Can I combine breast augmentation with other procedures?

Many women combine breast augmentation with a tummy tuck and liposuction to attain multiple improvements with a single surgery and recovery period. These combination procedures, called mommy makeovers, are personalized to each patient’s unique needs and cosmetic goals.

What is the difference between breast augmentation and breast lift?

Breast augmentation increases the sizes of the breasts and enhances their shape. A breast lift reduces sagging by removing excess skin; it does not make the breasts larger. Many women need a combined breast augmentation and lift to attain the breast size and shape they desire.

How long do breast augmentation incisions take to heal?

After breast augmentation, the scars are usually prominent, firm, and pink for at least 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. In most cases, the scars shrink, flatten, and fade, but this process can take up to a year.

Why are breast implants so high after surgery?

After breast augmentation, it’s common for breast implants to sit higher on the chest than desired because of swelling and tightness of the breast skin and chest muscles. Within a few months, swelling fades, tissues relax, and the implants “drop and fluff” into a natural position.
