Pregnancy, nursing, heredity, age, and weight loss are all factors that might cause a woman to choose breast lift surgery in Tampa / St. Petersburg.

Is Breast Lift Surgery Right for You?

You might be a candidate for breast lift surgery if:

  • You maintain a healthy, stable weight
  • Your breasts have a flatter, elongated shape or visibly stretched skin
  • When your breasts are unsupported, your nipples rest below the breast crease
  • Your nipples point downward
  • One breast is lower than the other

Some women combine a breast lift with breast augmentation to both reposition their breasts and add volume for a more attractive, balanced appearance. A breast lift is also sometimes combined with procedures such as liposuction or a tummy tuck for women after they have finished having children, as part of a customized mommy makeover.

Dr. Narasimhan is definitely a five-star surgeon – very knowledgeable, honest and kind. His office is very upscale, yet very warm and inviting. My procedure of choice went well. I’m very satisfied with the results. I will be returning for additional services in the future! I highly recommend.

Breast Lift Techniques

A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes the breasts. Breasts feel firmer, along with a flattering contour, while retaining a natural suppleness. Dr. Narasimhan’s detailed approach to breast enhancement comes with the understanding that a person’s overall wellness is linked closely to their feelings about their appearance. His surgical skill allows women having a breast lift to achieve the beautiful silhouette they envision.

Breast lift techniques vary based on the individual needs of the patient. The 3 most common techniques are:

“Donut” lift (periareolar incision)

As its name suggests, an incision is made in a round pattern around the edge of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The benefit of a donut lift is that there is no vertical scar on the underside of the breast, as is the case with the 2 following techniques. A donut lift, however, is only appropriate for patients with minimal sagging.

“Lollipop” lift

In cases where the sagging is more moderate, Dr. Narasimhan adds a vertical incision extending from the edge of the areola down the center of the breast to where the skin connects to the chest. This incision connects to the incision around the areola to provide more support to the lifted breast, giving the pair of incisions a “lollipop” shape.

“Anchor” lift

For women with heavier breasts that are sagging so that the nipples are well below the breast crease and are pointed down, a third, horizontal incision is added to the 2 incisions described above. This incision, which extends along the base of the breast, offers support that isn’t possible with only 2 incisions. The shape of the 3 incisions resembles an anchor, giving the technique its name. Although there is more scarring with this technique, most patients appreciate the way their breasts look after the lift and are satisfied with the results.

A less common technique, the crescent lift, involves an incision along the upper edge of the areola. This is only possible for women who need only minor lifting, and it is sometimes combined with breast augmentation.

Recovery After Breast Lift Surgery

Dr. Narasimhan reminds his patients that cosmetic surgery is still surgery, and it’s important to do your homework so you can achieve your aesthetic goals. The first way to ensure that your breast lift is successful is by choosing a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Narasimhan. Follow his specific instructions in the care of your breasts after surgery and you should be able to enjoy your results for many years to come.

Allowing a full week for rest after your breast lift surgery will allow your body time to replenish its energy. Most patients will wear a gauze wrap over their breasts for 2 days after surgery, and also will be fitted with a surgical support bra. Dr. Narasimhan recommends limiting exercise and strenuous activity in the 3 to 4 weeks following your surgery.

How Long Will the Results of My Breast Lift Last?

Provided you maintain the same weight that you started with before your surgery, do not become pregnant after your procedure, and maintain a healthy lifestyle, you can expect your breast lift to last for many years.
