How Long does Non Surgical Rhinoplasty Last?

What is a Non surgical rhinoplasty?

One of the most common questions I get asked in my private plastic surgery practice is non-surgical rhinoplasty.  This is an office based procedure which involves the injection of filler in selected places to change the shape of the nose.  There is no general anesthesia involved, and the procedure is also known as a liquid rhinoplasty.  While the procedure can sound appealing, only certain patients are good candidates!  Learn more below on this plastic surgery procedure…

Who are good candidates?

Generally good candidates are patients who have very subtle aspects of the nose that can be camouflaged with filler–anatomic characteristics such as small dorsal hump (hump on the bridge of the nose), small deformities, and patients who require small amount of tip elevation.  Also, patients who generally are not taking blood thinners (aspirin) are good candidates.

What are the risks?

Bruising is always a risk, but this is typically minimal.  Also, during the procedure Dr. Narasimhan will monitor the skin to make sure there is good circulation.  There is a limited amount of filler that can be injected at one time.  In certain patients, Dr. Narasimhan will administer filler to a patient in two sessions, spaced six weeks apart.  This allows for healing between sessions and skin swelling to potentially go down before using more filler.

What is the recovery after non surgical rhinoplasty

Recover is very minimal.  Dr. Narasimhan advises patients to refrain from heavy activity and exercise for 24 hours.  Then patients can resume activity.

What is the cost of non surgical rhinoplasty?

Cost of the procedure can range between $725 and $2000 depending on the amount of filler needed to contour the nose.  Cost is one important factor to consider, as non surgical rhinoplasty clearly is less expensive that surgical rhinoplasty.

How long does non surgical rhinoplasty last?

Depending on the amount of filler, results can last between 9 months and 1.5 years.  Results longevity have to do with two factors.  The first is what filler is being used.  Thicker Hyaluronic acid fillers can last 1.5 years or more.  The second factor is that these filler do migrate gradually — in order words they do not stay exactly where they were injected over time.  This will flatten and soften the results over time.  Many patients do no realize this when having non surgical rhinoplasty.

Does it work?

In short, yes, as long as the patient understands what non surgical rhinoplasty can achieve and what it cannot achieve.  As a board-certified plastic surgeon and rhinoplasty expert, Dr. Narasimhan makes sure to counsel his patients that small contour irregularities and minor reshaping can be achieved with filler.  But de-projection of the nose (shortening), advanced rip reshaping, and very large dorsal humps (on the bridge of the nose) require surgical rhinoplasty.  It is very important to consider an opinion from a rhinoplasty expert, because many medspas will overinject patients.
